Comparing The New iPhone 4S And Popular Samsung Galaxy S2

The Samsung Galaxy S2 and the Apple iPhone 4S are the latest flagship smartphone s from their respective manufacturers. The Samsung Galaxy S2 runs on the Android operating system, and provides a good showcase for this popular smartphone platform, whilst the iPhone 4S represents the latest advancements from Apple and their phenomenally successful iPhone franchise.

In this article, I will provide a comparison of the two, so you can decide which one best suits your requirements from a smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy S2Having already proved a very popular choice, the Samsung Galaxy S2 is a great showcase for the Android operating system. Along with its Samsung TouchWiz interface (the manufacturer’s custom Android skin) and 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, a great user experience is provided thanks to easy to use software which is also highly customisable. The rest of the hardware is pretty much on par with or better than, the majority of the competition. An 8 megapixel camera is on hand to take high quality still images, as well as high definition video footage in 1080p quality. The touchscreen is also a major talking point of this phone. Measuring 4.3 inches, it is amply proportioned for multimedia use such as viewing games and videos, as well as viewing videos and web pages. It has a high resolution of 480x 800, meaning that content is displayed in very high quality with good colour rendering, further adding to its appeal as a multimedia device.

iPhone 4SThe Apple iPhone 4S is the latest and arguably greatest incarnation of the popular iPhone series. On the surface, much of this phone appears to be the same as the original iPhone 4S; the design is the same, with its unmistakable metal band (and antenna) around the edge of the phone, and its glass finish on the front and back. The screen is also the same as the iPhone 4, and this comes as no surprise, as this is arguably the most impressive feature of the phone, with its unmatched resolution of 640x 960. But what has changed? Apple has added the results of its latest innovations in the smartphone arena; Siri (a voice activated personal assistant) is one of the most talked about aspects of this phone. It allows users to ask the phone a question or command it to perform a task, and it will then use a variety of the most suitable applications to provide an answer. Also, the camera has been upgraded to 8 megapixels, with 1080p HD video. The processor has seen a complete overhaul from its predecessor, now with a dual-core 1 GHz Apple A5 chip. There are of course a number of improvements made to several aspects of this phone, but these are among the most talked about.

So which is the best?To say that one phone is better than the other, because they are two very different phones. The iPhone 4S probably gets the nod, as it is newer than the Samsung handset, so has some more up to date features. The Samsung Galaxy S2 is a great phone though, and provides a comprehensive package of features for either work or play. The iPhone 4S certainly matches the Galaxy S2 in most respects, but many will invariably choose this thanks to features such as its easy to use OS, as well as Apple’s multimedia ecosystem (iTunes, iPod and AppStore integration). In my opinion, choosing between the two largely comes down to one’s preference for either Android or iOS, or for a particular manufacturer’s products.
